Zoo Animals

I take care of exotic animals at our zoo. Is it ok for pregnant?

I do educational outreaches with the zoo animals specifically set here: snakes (eastern fox snake, milk snake, boa) hissing cockroaches tarantula turtles lizards (skinks, bearded dragon, a lizard without legs) rabbit Chinchilla Ferret dove tenrec opossum armadillo I've ever been bitten by one of them, although the tarantula is venomous, and of course I wash my hands and arms before and after handling. But am I putting my baby to too much risk in doing this? I have a voluntary commitment to a certain number of hours every year and I still have about 20 to go before the end of 2007. I am 5 weeks (just found out yesterday!) Speaker. Any animal experts out there who might have good advice? THANK YOU! E.

The vet at the zoo would be a better source of information about it. Other than the tarantula, nothing on your list seems a major problem given your cleaning standards. However, the hormones of pregnancy have been known to change the behavior of animals such as Cats and dogs, and sometimes this behavior is aggressive. I guess the same could happen with some of these animals listed.
