What would you put in an emergency birth kit?
I'm higher risk for preterm birth due to a heart shaped uterus. I have to take a flight this weekend to Ohio where my baby will be born. (Trust me, I am cleared to fly and doctor ordered. The island I live on doesn't have birth facilities.) I'm 35 weeks along and I'm packing a kit in case I would go into labor on the plane. What would you recommend to bring in it?
Sterile Gloves
Guaze pads
Baby blankets
A book on emergency childbirth. If you can't find one this late hour go to your local bookstore and pick up "spiritual midwifery" by Ina May Gaskin
Extra large maxi pads
Some large towels
you don't need anything to cut the cord. If the baby is born on the plane you can leave the cord attached until you land so that paramedics can cut it when you arrive. You can't bring anything sharp anyway.
